He Wants Space

What do you do when your boyfriend says he wants space? This can be devastating for a woman who thought everything was fine with her relationship. Well, everything may still be fine in the end, but here are some tips to help you deal with it next time he says he wants “space”.

1. Don’t Freak Out

Actually perhaps a better way to say this is - don't overreact. It’s understandable to feel overwhelmed, especially when you didn’t see this coming. However, try to be as calm and as pleasant as possible. That way, he’ll remember that you didn’t "freak out", and it may make it easier for him when he wants to see you again.

2. Give Him Space

He’s asked for it, so give it to him! Be the woman men adore and demonstrate your value. Don’t call him, or email or text him. Don’t try to “accidentally” bump into him either. It can be hard not to be in contact with him, and wondering what’s he thinking, but you’ll only disadvantage yourself by trying to contact him when he’s asked you not to.

3. Enjoy Your Me Time

Try to enjoy yourself during this break. Hang out with your girlfriends, give yourself a makeover or start a new hobby. There’s no point moping around the house, glaring at the phone because you’re willing it to ring. Try to make this time about you as well. Just think of how much you’ll have to talk about when you’re back together.

4. He May Be Scared

He may want some space because he’s feeling scared. Maybe the relationship is more serious than he thought it would be, or this might be his first really committed relationship. Sometimes men process their feelings differently than women. Whatever the reason, he’s trying to work through it in his own way, so let him.

5. He Might Want To Break Up

Unfortunately, another reason he wants space might be because he wants to break up but doesn’t know how to do it. So he thinks it’s easier if he says he wants some space. This doesn't mean that he is going to break up, rather that he's overwhelmed with something that is bothering him and he might need time to simply allow his feelings to settle down. How can you help? Just ask him one time - "Is anything wrong?" Even if he doesn't open up to you, just the fact that you were interested enough to notice makes you look good in his eyes.
